I've been designing and building websites and software for over 15 years: in-house, at agencies, and on my own. People kept hiring me for the same reason. I could work out the plan, design it, and then build it myself.
Why I built Patch
I never used another tool. I built my own, because I didn't want to learn a tool built for other people and then make it fit my workflow. So I made it flexible and easy, not overly complicated. My own studio, Elefox Studio, was its first user, and Patch is what that portal grew into.
What I've built
I've built an intake system for a therapy practice, a CRM for a realtor who was done bending to someone else's, and a site for a financial planning firm that needed it to actually bring in leads. After enough of those, I opened a studio. I also built a puzzle game, Cove: Ocean Puzzles.
The tools change constantly, so I keep learning the new stuff. That way what I build still feels current two years after launch.
What I write about
The business side of client work: what to charge, how a project should flow, getting paid, and keeping clients in the loop without living in your inbox. It's the side of client work I deal with myself, so it's what I write about.
How I write these
- Every number links to where it came from, with the date I checked it.
- Anything about Patch is checked against the app itself before a post goes up.
- Example math is labeled as made up, because it is.
- No invented stories, stats or testimonials. If I didn't live it or read it, it's not in there.
- Posts show when they were published and when they were last updated. Spot something wrong? Email hello@elefoxstudio.com and I'll fix it.
A little more about me
I'm a mom of two. My studio's name comes from my kids: my daughter's nursery was all elephants, my son's was all foxes, and I have both tattooed on my arm. You can read more on the Elefox Studio about page.
